Fight Still on for the Glen Boxing Club
Sinn Fein Cllr Thomas Gould welcomes the news that the Glen Boxing Club is to reopen its doors next Monday night 5th December at 7:00PM. The Club is inviting existing and new members to attend.
An eventful meeting took place in the Glen Boxing Club last night where a decision was taken before the meeting to postpone their AGM and hold a Club EGM instead. A large crowd was in attendance which included members and former members, parents and members of the community. Chairman Anthony Connolly requested that only club officials, coaches and life members be present at the meeting. This was met with disappointment by the large crowd that was in attendance but they accepted his decision. However the outcome of the meeting to reopen the Glen Boxing Club was met with relief and excitement by its supporters. The club will be officially affiliated today Friday 2nd December and the doors will open at 7:00pm next Monday night 5th December.
A decision was also taken to reschedule the AGM for 12th January 2012 at 8:00PM at the Glen Boxing Club which will be open to the public. This will give the club time to allow the boxers to prepare for their upcoming competitions. In the coming weeks the club with the cooperation of the Cork County Boxing Board, will hold an underage boxing tournament to get their young boxers back into competition and to raise funds for the club
The club’s coaches Tom Kelleher and Robbie O’Driscoll were thrilled with the decision to reopen the club and are looking forward to getting back into coaching again. The club chairman Anthony Connolly described the meeting as being very positive and is also looking forward to the club going from strength to strength.
Cllr. Gould is delighted with the decision to reopen the club. “This could not have been done without the support of the everyone and it just goes to show what can be done if we work together for the good of the community”. Cllr. Gould has said that he will continue to support those involved with the Glen Boxing Club and also calls on others in the community to show their support for one of Corks great sporting institutions.Follow TheCork.ie (The Online Newspaper for Cork, Ireland) on social media
