New Mayor for County Cork

County Cork has a new Mayor..

Cllr Barbara Murray is a full-time Cllr from Youghal and becomes only the second woman to become the leader of the County Council.

The Fine Gael member was handed by the chain of office by outgoing Mayor Tim Lombard.

At today’s County Council A-G-M Fianna Fail had proposed Cllr Kevin O’Keefee but he lost out to Cllr Murray by 33 votes to 10.

It is the first time since the 1950’s that a Mayor has hailed from Youghal .

The new County Mayor Barbara Murray said her priority will be to promote both East Cork, and the County as a whole

Cllr Murray also used her acceptance speech to encourage more women into politics

meanwhile the new Deputy Mayor is Fine Gael’s John A. Collins from Carrigaline. He was selected unopposed.
