Labour TD for Cork South-West Michael McCarthy has welcomed news that significant progress has been made in the Clonakilty Sewerage Scheme project following confirmation that funding has been approved that enables Cork County Council to accept the project tender.
Deputy McCarthy said: “I have received confirmation from the Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan this morning that his Department has approved the necessary funding to allow the council accept the tender submitted by EPS Ltd for the project bundle which includes upgrading the Clonakilty Sewerage Scheme. This is a vital step forward for the project.
The current sewerage treatment plant for Clonakilty is overloaded and its location is problematic due to the presence of development in close proximity. While this is far from satisfactory, it is encouraging to know that progress is underway and that this Government is pressing ahead with the issue, which is important to many people in the local community.
I look forward to the next steps of the process getting underway.”
