Rents rise for City Council tenants from today

Rents for people living in social housing in Cork CITY are increasing from today. Some 2 euro a week, or 104 euro a year, is being added to rents to cover the cost of servicing central heating boilers. The City Council used to pay for servicing, however it’s funding from Dublin in the form of the Local Government fund has been reduced and it’s now passing the cost onto tenants. Sinn Fein City Cllr Thomas Gould says many tenants won’t have the extra money, and he’s questioning why boilers now have to be serviced every year when previously every second year was the practice.
