Cork’s city manager has defended the controversial “Sky Garden” project,

The overall “Mardyke Gardens Project” – as it’s called – also includes a
Victorian kitchen garden, restoring the Father Matthew fountain, a new bandstand, riverside
promenade, and a walled garden.
406-thousand euro has been pledged by Cork City Council, and Failte Ireland
have committed 1-point-96 million euro.
City manager Tim Lucey says he found it “infuriating” to hear continued
criticism of the project from a minority of City Councillors because external auditors have approved the budget.
The Manager says the project was “managed appropriately and [has been]
given a full bill of health” by auditors.
The new Fitzgerald’s Park will contribute an estimated 145-thousand euro a
