By David O’Sullivan,

A new “Educate Together” national school has opened in Rochestown this morning [9am], with an intake of 20 junior infants.

It becomes the 67th school under the patronage of Educate Together nationwide, and the 5th in Cork.

Educate Together runs multi-demoninational schools, which are NOT connected the the Catholic Church as had the the historical practice in Ireland.

The new Rochestown school is currently located in three pre-fabs and Principal Alan Sheehan says they hope to secure a bigger site as numbers grow This mornings “first day of school” is the result of a lot of hard work, and many parents had enrolled their children before the school was even built.
