UCC startup initiative marks 100 job milestone

gatewayUCC is a 1,100 square metre centre with 21 incubation units,
where tenants have access to support from a range of UCC Departments,
along with Workshops, introduction to Venture Capital Opportunities
and Business Angels Programmes.

GatewayUCC has announced that their portfolio of start-ups, spin-outs
and high-tech companies has cumulatively reached 100 jobs translating
investment in research in tangible employment.

Since the opening of gatewayUCC in 2010, a significant number of
successful spin-outs including Thinksmart Technologies providing
location analytics to customers to more effectively analyse end user
behaviour and which was acquired by US multinational Cisco Systems Ltd
in 2012; Solvotrin Therapeutics Ltd which specializes in creating new
protected drugs for the treatment of rare diseases in the area of
cardiovascular and cancer prevention; Metabolomic Diagnostics an
innovative medical diagnostics company involved in conjunction with
UCC to provide predictive diagnosis of pre-eclampsia in early
pregnancy and 3 Pro Energywatch Ltd an eco software company
dedicated to energy saving solutions to reduce wasted IT energy and
save IT running costs, have all availed of the gatewayUCC services to
scale up and develop their businesses, creating viable, high tech job
opportunities in the process.
