The number of people waiting for a Council house in Cork CITY has
passed the 8-thousand mark.
The local authority’s “Housing Committee” will meet tonight for the
first time since the Christmas Break.
Socialist Party Cllr Mick Barry says the Government have tried to
downplay the city’s social housing waiting list statistics in the past by
implying that the vast bulk of
people on the list had no interest in social housing but had to sign on in
order to receive rent supplement.
Cllr Barry says that is NOT the case, and there are REAL people
waiting for accommodation.
Sinn Fein Cllr Tommy Gould is calling on the Government to give the
City Council extra funds to build new houses
