Clonakilty Town Council has held it’s final “statutory meeting”

Every Town Council across Ireland is being abolished on May 31st as part of
Local Government Reform, and County Council’s will take-over what used to
be done locally.

However, abolition means that the concept of a “Mayor” is also being lost
in towns.

In Clonakilty the local Duchas Heritage Group will hold their own public
poll to elect a “Community Mayor” on May 24th, the day after the local
elections

They want to maintain the 400 year old tradition of having a local
figurehead.
