The man who many tip to become the next Deputy Leader of the Labour Party has drawn criticism upon himself by not wearing a helmet when cycling on a busy Cork City street.

Junior Transport Minister Alan Kelly was in Cork yesterday to reveal the new colour scheme for the “Coke Zero public bicycle rental initiative”, which is due to begin after September.

For a “Publicity picture” Minister Kelly cycled on Cork’s busy Anglesea Street, but failed to wear a bicycle helmet or high visibility vest as “recommended” by the Road Safety Authority.

Ironically speaking at the launch before receiving the online criticism Minister Kelly discussed the argument to regulate the wearing of helmets
