Controversy is ensuing in a West Cork town .
Clonakilty’s newly formed Community Mayoral Council have been told by Cork
County Council that they can not have the use of the Town’s old Mayoral
Chain, even through the new Mayor is representing the Town in Ireland and
The historic chain of office worn by the last Statutory Mayor of the Town
now belongs to Cork County Council.
That local authority have turned down a request from the new “Community
Mayor” to have the use of the chain.
The Clonakilty Mayoral Council is a directly elected non-political body of
5 locals who will be “Mayor” in rotation,
but the Mayoral Council has no official connection with the County Council
so it is now expected to commission its own chain.
