The first blockade to stop the installation of water meters on the Northside of Cork City continues.
It’s close to Mayfield in the Barnavanra Crescent Housing Estate.
(Technically the area is within the Cork County COuncil area but it borders the City Council area.
Interestingly installation of meters has not yet begun in the City per se.)
This morning: upwards of 10 protestors; including residents and supporters from other parts of Cork
began a blockade.
Gardai were called, and told protestors they couldn’t block the entrance to the estate.
Protesters are now continuing their campaign by standing on footpaths, meanwhile Irish Water contractor vans remain in the area.
Workers Party City Cllr Ted Tynan says the protesters will remain, and will not allow meters to be installed without consentFollow TheCork.ie (The Online Newspaper for Cork, Ireland) on social media
