One of Cork’s largest employers, E-M-C, has applied for planning permission to expand its existing facility in the townland of Ovens.

The US multinational has submitted a planning application to Cork County Council to build a data centre and 4-storey office block. The company is also seeking planning for a multi-storey car park.

EMC say if permission is granted then construction would begin within a 10-year period.

Globally EMC employs more than 65-thousand people globally, and has 3,000 employees in Ireland.

Minister of State for Data Protection is Cork TD Dara Murphy, who has today welcomed the news

Minister Dara Murphy also says it’s great to see a multinational cement its presence in Ireland
