Supporters of marriage equality in Cork, including Fine Gael LGBT and
Cork South Central Fine Gael TD Jerry Buttimer, have organised an
information meeting about the referendum. People wanting to find out
more about the referendum are invited to a public meeting ‘Preparing
for Marriage Equality Referendum’ at 8pm on Thursday 5th February 2015
in the Gresham Metropole Hotel, MacCurtain Street, Cork.

Speaking about the public meeting Deputy Buttimer said: “Now is the
time to start getting ready for the campaign for the marriage equality
referendum. That is why we have organised a public meeting to help
individuals and groups to get more information about the referendum on
marriage equality.

“The meeting will be addressed by a number of guest speakers. My
colleague Deirdre Clune MEP will chair the meeting and it will be
addressed by the Minister for Justice and Equality, Frances
Fitzgerald, TD. Other guest speakers will include Dr Conor O’Mahony,
of the Faculty of Law at UCC, Laura Harmon, President USI and Brian
Sheehan, Director of GLEN.”

Ted O’Connell, proprietor of Loafers Bar, and one of the organisers of
the meeting said “The announcement of the wording for this referendum
has placed an immediate spotlight on the issue of marriage equality.
This meeting will be an opportunity for people in Cork to find out why
this is so important. It will be an opportunity for people who wish
to actively get involved in the referendum to meet and discuss how we
can all play our part.”
