Sinn Féin has announced Cllr Chris O’Leary and Cllr Mick Nugent as the party’s nominees for the positions of Ard Mhéara Chathair Chorcaí and Leas Ard Mhéara Chathair Chorcaí respectively.
The nominations were ratified by the party’s Cork City Officer Board last night.
On accepting the nomination, Cllr O’Leary said;
“It is a honour to be chosen by Sinn Féin as the party’s nominee for the position Ard Mhéara particularly at a time when the people of Cork are remembering our martyred Mayor Tomás MacCurtain.
“I look forward to my nomination going forward to the AGM of Cork City Council on Friday, June 12th.”
Cllr O’Leary will outline his vision for the office of Ard Mhéara on Thursday evening at the Cork City launch of Sinn Féin’s national programme of events to commemorate the centenary of the 1916 rising.
Cllr O’Leary recently learned that he will not be running for Sinn Fein in the upcoming general election, so there is much support within Sinn Fein circles for his Mayorship, according to TheCork.ie party sources.
