Cork’s Red FM are celebrating this week after completing the Treble at this year’s PPI Radio Awards including ‘Music Station of the Year’.
The ceremony which is the highlight of the Radio calendar each year was held last Friday at the Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny. Comedian and radio DJ Dermot Whelan presented the Awards which were attended by over 700 guests from all over Ireland.
In addition to winning Music Station of the year Cork’s Red FM also went home with Best Breakfast Programme for the KC Show and Best Interactive Speech Programme for the Neil Prendeville Show. Speaking about the success CEO of Cork’s Red FM Diarmuid O’Leary said “we are delighted to win the three awards especially music station of the year as no radio station outside of Dublin has won it before”.
The awards top off a fantastic year for Cork’s Red FM which saw them continue to be the most listened to station in Cork following the JNLR/Ipsos MRBI report into radio listening that was published In July. Cork’s RedFM have 118,000 people tuning in everyday making it the most listened to station in Cork and 7,000 ahead of its nearest competitor.
Programme Director KC who is also host of the award winning breakfast show believes that “RedFM’s success is down to strongly focusing on all things local”. This view is cemented by the fact that the Neil Prendeville show has won PPI Radio award for interactive speech programme for the second consecutive year by covering ‘very strong’ local stories.
To build on their success Cork’s RedFM have introduced new features and shows during the past 12 months including the very popular Ray Foley who has been presenting on the station every Saturday morning since the beginning of June.
