Sinn Fein TD for Cork North Central has called today’s news that the announcement of a chosen option for the M20 has been delayed to Q1 2022 disappointing. The announcement was due by the end of the summer 2021.
Deputy Gould said:
“At the centre of this are families, businesses and communities stuck in limbo. These people are not sure if their home or land is going to be compulsorily purchased and were promised a concrete answer by this month.
“This is frustrating for those who really need the M20 and for those concerned about the impact the chosen route will have on their local area. For those driving the M20 regularly, there is no light at the end of the tunnel to improve safety issues.
“There has been talk about the M20 for over a decade and just like the promised elective hospital, delay after delay has left people feeling angry and upset.
“There have been a number of deaths on the current road and any delay, especially on the most dangerous sections, can’t be accepted.
“This is a public safety issue and the government needs to intervene now and instruct the M20 team to make their announcement and begin work on the chosen option. People need clarity and they need a straight answer. Dragging their heels and avoiding making a decision helps no one.”
