Voting in Clonakilty’s independent poll to elect a Community Mayor has
been put back by one day.

The Local Dúchas Heritage Group want the West Cork Tourist town to
have some form of a Mayor to represent the area after the Statutory
Town Council, and “Town Mayor” are abolished in June.

They’re asking interested people who live in Clonakilty to put their
names forward as candidates in the non-political poll, and also to
come out and vote.

The community election was to be held – for convenience – on the same
day as the official Local and European poll on May 23rd in a building
across the road, but it has now been moved back by one day to May 24th
at Scoil na mBuachaillí.

Tomás Tuipéar from Clonakilty Dúchas Heritage says the town needs to
have a Mayor to maintain tradition, and to be a focal point for
community work
