Bus Éireann has recognised its Cork Cash Office with the Community Award at its 2026 GEM (‘Go the Extra Mile’) Awards for the South Region, celebrating the team’s longstanding commitment to charitable initiatives and community organisations across Cork.
Liz O’Donovan, Ber O’Mahony, Kasia Carville, Stephen Flavey and Niamh Cofferkey, have dedicated their spare time to supporting a range of causes, demonstrating a shared commitment to helping others and making a positive difference in their community.
Their charitable efforts continue throughout the year. At Christmas and Easter, the group prepares hampers for raffles supporting the Cycling for All Cork Group, as well as hampers for people experiencing poverty in Ethiopia. They also give their time to support Special Olympics and are enthusiastic supporters of Field of Dreams. These initiatives reflect the team’s generosity and willingness to support communities both locally and further afield.
“The Cork Cash Office team has shown an extraordinary commitment to its community, from supporting the Marymount Hospice coffee morning for 20 years to helping a range of other causes. Their generosity and teamwork are a powerful example of going the extra mile beyond the workplace,” said Stephanie Maher, Chief Engineer & Critical Infrastructure Officer.
The nomination highlights the values of collaboration and respect that underpin their work. By working together and giving their time outside their regular roles, the group has built a sustained record of community involvement.
