[Audio] Cork must keep 24h Airport says Govt TD

By David O’Sullivan

A Cork TD has told the Minister for Transport that Cork Airport “must
maintain it’s 24 hour status”,

The Irish Aviation Authority – which provides air traffic control across
the country – is considering “limited restrictions” to controller services at night,
because of low levels of traffic.

The Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar cannot compel the IAA to keep Cork
open 24 hours, however the authority has agreed to postpone any decision for 6 months,
while consultations take place.

Deputy Jerry Buttimer says any dilution of services at Cork Airport would
have a negative impact on the region
