Kick Start, Steps to Winter Wellness with Rob Heffernan
at Douglas Court Shopping Centre
Saturday, October 15th, 12-5pm

Douglas Court Shopping Centre will host their ‘Kick Start, Steps to Winter Wellness’ event on Saturday, October 15th, from 12pm to 5pm, with Olympic Racewalker Rob Heffernan. The event is aimed at promoting physical and mental wellbeing amongst the community of Douglas, especially coming into the winter months where it can become difficult to get out and stay active during the dark mornings and evenings.

The key speaker on the day will be local legend, Rob Heffernan, who will offer his advice and expertise about health and fitness on the day, answering any questions you may have. Rob will share his knowledge and advice on how to keep fit, discussing how to stay motivated, work/life balance, and juggling family life while keeping fit.

The event which is free to attend, will also feature health, fitness and mental health exhibitors from around the community of Douglas, offering people advice and answering health and fitness related questions. A number of local sports clubs will also be present on the day to chat to people if they are interested in joining or looking for ideas for a new hobby to keep fit coming into the winter months, or to simply help give you the kick start and backing you may need.

Ahead of the Kick Start event on October 15th, Keith Kenny, manager of Douglas Court Shopping Centre said, “We are delighted here in Douglas Court shopping centre to host this wellness event. Both physical and mental well-being are issues we feel are very important, and anything we can do to help promote a healthy lifestyle amongst our community is greatly welcomed amongst tenants. We are thrilled to have our local Olympic hero Rob Heffernan backing our event and look forward to the gems he will share. We really want to push the message that your physical and mental health are equally important, and that exercise is a key component for your mental wellbeing.”

Another wellness initiative being led by Douglas Court Shopping Centre is a beginners running group to help motivate people to get out in the fresh air and exercise. The running group which is free of charge begins on October 6th at 7:30pm and will meet in Douglas Court shopping centre. It will be led by marathon runner and personal trainer, Trevor Cummins. Anyone interested in attending a session must confirm their booking in advance by emailing trevor@trainwithtrevor.ie.
