Mayoral Reception – Recognition for Remarkable Achievers across County Cork

The outgoing Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Séamus McGrath (Fianna Fail) hosted the final Mayoral Reception of his one-year term yesterday in the Foyer of County Hall, formally recognising a number of significant achievements from groups and individuals across Cork County. On the night, the Mayor awarded:-

  • Leeside AFC Youth Teams (U18) Munster Champions & FAI All Ireland
  • Team Ambassador UCC Glanmire – winning fourth National Basketball Cup Title in a row (Setting a new record in Irish Basketball)
  • Mayfield Group Celebration Night
  • Coláiste Tresa, Kanturk – Awarded best school in Republic of Ireland in recognition of their numerous student winners various categories in BT Young Scientist 2017 Awards
  • Shauna Murphy – Junior Winner of Specsavers Children’s Story Competition 2016
  • Skibbereen Rowers – recent success at the European Championships

Speaking at the reception, Mayor McGrath warmly welcomed all to County Hall while acknowledging the incredible accolades achieved across range of people and groups throughout Cork, “I am truly delighted to host such an evening and congratulate each of the recipients, from my own behalf, on behalf of all the members and staff at Cork County Council and from the people of County Cork on these wonderful achievements and on the pride they have bought to their families, communities and county. They have displayed remarkable dedication to their respective interests and this reception is an acknowledgement of their recent efforts and achievements.”

Cork County Council is the largest local authority in Ireland

Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Tim Lucey reiterated the sentiments of Mayor McGrath and went on to say, “As a Council we are always striving to support and encourage participation across any form of sport or activity and enable such talent which is clearly evident across tonight’s recipients.”
