25 new permanent jobs to be created

The best prices in grocery are coming to Clonakilty as Aldi today confirmed it will open a new store in the town in 2022. Aldi has received final planning permission for the store at the Waterfront, which will create 25 permanent jobs once opened, as well as 80 jobs during the construction phase.

The new environmentally-friendly 1,315 sqm store will be powered by 100% green electricity and will see two free-to-use electric charging points installed outside the store furthering Aldi’s strong sustainability credentials.

The store will be constructed in Aldi’s award-winning Project Fresh design and there will be ample parking available for customers, whether cycling or driving to the new store, with 109 car parking spaces and 20 bike parking spaces.

Commenting, Colin Breslin, Aldi Regional Managing Director said: “We can’t wait to come to Clonakilty and bring our amazing prices to even more customers. Our Swap & Save campaign reminds shoppers about the saving that can be generated by swapping their weekly shop to Aldi. Our new Clonakilty store will bring great value to the doorsteps of locals who previously had to travel to shop at Aldi.”

Aldi’s existing 23 stores across Cork city and county are deeply embedded in the local communities they service. Each store is part of Aldi’s food waste reduction programme, with Aldi’s Cork stores having donated over 310,000 meals through FoodCloud to local charities.

Each store is also part of Aldi’s Community Grants network. COPE Foundation, The Irish Cancer Society, Marymount Hospice, Cork Association for Autism, Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind are some of the many local charities that have availed of the €500 bursary grant in recent years.
