Illegal tobacco seized at Dunmanway Horse Fair

Offices from Revenue’s Customs Service today, with assistance from An Garda Síochana, (05/08/15) seized 6kgs of ‘roll your own’ tobacco and 4,800 cigarettes with a retail value of over €5,000 in Co Cork.

The ‘Richman’ and ‘MG’ cigarettes and ‘Amber Leaf’ and ‘Golden Virginia’ tobacco were discovered when a commercial van and caravan were stopped and searched at the annual horse fair in Dunmanway, Co. Cork. An Irish national in his forties was questioned and a file is being prepared. The vehicle was also seized.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes in the shadow economy.
