“Terry Wogan was a man of true talent. His success, both here and in the UK, is a reflection of his work ethic, intelligence and charm. He was a familiar face and voice in millions of homes across Ireland and the UK and his interests made him popular with people of all ages.

“Terry was a very proud Irish man, who never forgot his Limerick roots. His dedication to charity work saw him to the fore of the Children in Need movement, which raised tens of millions of pounds through its novel fundraising initiatives, many of which were reflective of Terry’s own fun personality. This legacy alone speaks volumes about the kind of man he was.

“Terry’s true home was in front of a camera or behind a microphone. His ability to get the best out of the people he was interviewing was second to none. His charming, self-deprecating and often mischievous manner always led to entertaining engagements with his guests and the audience.

“Ireland has lost one of its best today and I want to extend my deepest sympathy to his wife Helen and family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis”.
