After selling 7.5 million cinema tickets, and showing 2,000 movies
for 520,000 hours, Omniplex Cork celebrates its 10 Year Anniversary.
There are 10 days of celebrations in the Mahon Point based cinema
leading up to the big birthday celebration next week.
Omniplex have teamed up with Cork’s Red FM radio station to give away
€1,500 on the Neil Prenderville Show. Neil is giving away €300 every
day, as well as guest passes.
Omniplex is also extending its popular Tuesday Treats €5 offer to
weekdays all this week and next (excludes Friday and weekends). A
Birthday Combo is also on offer where moviegoers can get a regular
popcorn, regular drink and a bag of sweets all for €10.
The fun continues this weekend with RED FM giving away 10 more cinemas
passes on Saturday. In the cinema there is a kid’s colouring
competition on Saturday and Sunday; with another 10 pairs of cinema
passes being given to the winner. All entries will be displayed in the
cinema.
Stephen Moroney, Manager at Omniplex Cork, says: “It’s hard to believe
that the cinema has been open a decade all ready. Time really does fly
when you’re having fun. With 13 screens and 2,531 seats, we have one
of the biggest cinemas in the country. It is also one of the busiest,
we sell about 750,000 cinema tickets every year and will serve our 8
millionth moviegoer later this year. Happy birthday to us!”
In the ten years since it opened the cinema has seen the
transformation from 35mm film to the digital era, with high definition
digital projection. The cinemas was refurbished a year ago, which saw
the opening of the
OmnplexMAXX giant screen and fitting out of the cinema with Omniplex’s
now famous rocker armchairs. It now also has an Xpresso Café, which
serves Nespresso coffee, as well as a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream parlour.
Omniplex is the largest cinema company on the island of Ireland. It is
100% Irish owned by the Anderson family. It currently operates 18
cinemas in both the Republic and Northern Ireland. New cinemas in
Carlow and Craigavon are due to open shortly. As well as screening the
latest blockbuster films, Omniplex also be transmit one-off
productions, opera, live sporting events, musicals, concerts and
ballet.
