Replica Guns are too easy to purchase – says Cllr

Gardai in Cork are to ask retailers of imitation guns to sign up to a voluntary code of conduct.

Under Irish Law any gun with a power of less than one joule is NOT classified as a firearm, and can be sold to any person regardless of age.

Cork Cities Joint Policing Committee, which is made up mostly of Councillors, has now asked Gardai to visit retailers in Cork asking them to notsell replica guns to under 18’s

Garda Sgt Tony Davis from the Anglesea Street Crime Prevention Unit says a similar code is already in place for the sale of knives.

Sinn Fein Cllr Chris O’Leary agrees that replica firearms are too freely available
